Stays abroad

During their Doctorate, PhD students are required to spend a period of at least 4 months of their whole time dedicated to the Doctorate in a Research Institution abroad.

Procedure for all candidates

Before leaving for this period, it is mandatory to request by email the authorization to the Head of the PhD Program by sending the activity description letter and the letter of acceptance on the foreign Research Institution letterhead.
At the end of each period abroad, PhD students must send by email to the Delegate of the Teaching Committee for ECTS assignment and to the Head of the PhD programme the declaration of accomplishment of the period abroad signed by the responsible of the stage in the foreign Research Institution on its letterhead paper.

Additional procedure for candidates requesting a grant increase

PhD students with a scholarship may request the increase of their grant - where due - for the period spent abroad, by using the online application system (Annex 4 of the PhD Regulation - Vademecum). This online procedure substitutes the paper application completely. Authorization on the online application system, must be submitted at least 72 hours before the departure date.
